Snacking is essential for maintaining your blood sugar levels and boosting your metabolism during the day. If you’re active in sports or exercise (including light exercise), it is essential to eat throughout the day. You should keep snacks on-hand for those moments when hunger strikes! I like to think of tummy grumbles as the red light you ran through; in fact, if your stomach is growling it's likely that you are not listening to your hunger signals soon enough. When I plan ahead, it’s easier for me to make healthy decisions and reach for something nutritious and delicious. Here are a few of my favorites to keep on-hand.
1. I love Overnight Oats! They’re such an easy thing to make in the evenings for a healthy snack the next day. My favorite combination includes gluten free oats, flax seed, walnuts, stevia, almond milk, vanilla extract, bananas, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In the warmer months, I’m always getting out my Vitamix to make smoothies. I love pairing bitter greens and sweet fruits to balance the flavor, vitamins and minerals. My favorite combo is leafy greens (like kale) with pineapple, mango, or apple. I add the liquid to the bottom (like coconut water or probiotic yogurt), then the veggies (like carrots or cucumbers) and leafy greens and top it off with fruits and chia seeds! I don’t love ice, so I keep all the ingredients cold in the refrigerator or freezer first.
When I’m not at home, I love having healthy snacks to reach for in my gym bag or purse. Kind Bars have been a staple for me for years. Not only are they tasty, they have healthy, whole ingredients that keep me feeling full between meals.
When I’m craving something salty, I always reach for Rhythym Kale Chips. While I do love to make my own kale chips, these are my favorite packaged ones for busier days when I don’t have time to cook!
I’ve said it a bunch, but I’ll say it again. I love Health Ade Kombucha. Kombucha is full of probiotics and healthy bacteria. A refreshing kombucha is energizing and should keep you moving on the most sluggish of days. One of my instructors makes her own Kombucha....#goals
