Dear Future Yogi,
You are about to embark on one of the most incredible journeys of your life, and I am so happy for you! Yoga has truly changed my life forever, and I hope you will feel the same.
I found yoga just after quitting Varsity Cheerleading at Virginia Tech… I had never experienced anything like it. I was captured by the physicality of the practice, and the ability to be challenged in an environment that championed rejuvenation and a softer side of “coaching.” My mind was blown by all of the physical possibilities and mental challenges that laid ahead of me, and I was eager to get started!
My hope is that as you start your own personal yoga journey, you will keep an open mind. Yoga is a lifestyle, not just a practice, and it doesn’t have one mold. It doesn’t matter if you look different from everyone else in class or if you don’t have the nicest gear— yoga is about using what you have in the present and building upon it. My best advice is to just slow down, listen, breathe and be present.
I truly believe if the whole world practiced yoga, the world would be a better place. I hope that yoga speaks to you in a way that pushes you to incorporate it into your everyday life. Whatever it may be, find a reason to keep coming back to the mat and pushing yourself. The possibilities are endless.
Remember: Untether your spirit, accept the obstacles and live audaciously playful!
