As my outdoor June Wedding quickly approaches, I continue finding myself dreaming of picturesque Beaufort, SC. I can see the backdrop of mossy oaks shading the Intracoastal Waterway in my parent’s backyard, I remember the radiant sun setting in deep shades of magenta and pink, and I hear my older sister's voice, “let’s go inside, the bugs are getting me.” Somehow I seemed to have avoided that gene; in fact, I can count the bug bites I’ve suffered from on one hand. For those who cannot seem to escape the mosquitoes, I’ve concocted an all-natural bug repellant for you!
Lavender Essential Oil
Citronella Essential Oil
Melaleuca Essential Oil
Absolut Vodka (or Rubbing Alcohol)
*It is important to use CPTG certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. If you want to make your own buy spray, you will also need:
An empty dish soap container
A large bowl to mix everything in
Small Spray Bottles
Mix 10 ounces of vinegar, 10 ounces of distilled water, 2.5 ml of Citronella, 2.5 ml bottles of Lavender, 20 drops of of Tea Tree Oil, 1/8 cup of Absolut Vodka
Mix all ingredients together. I like using a pitcher, as it makes pouring easier.
Pour the mixture into the empty dish soap container and use the squirt spout to easily transfer the mixture into the small spray bottles.
Place the labels on your dry bottles. I use labels intended for mason jars, Avery brand.
I had bug sprays set out at my rehearsal dinner and wedding in cute baskets, “Be smitten not bitten.”
