Top 20 Things Every New Mom Needs (0-6 Months)

  1. Solly Baby Wrap: I wore my Solly Baby Wrap every single day for the first five or six months of Channing’s life. I started with just one but had three in rotation (plus a Boba) before swapping Channing into a more structured carrier. If your baby is colicky or tends to spit up frequently, plan to wash your wrap at minimum every other day.

  2. Como Tomo: The Como Tomo is uniquely designed to mimic a breast. The fuller body, silicone feel, and round shape helped our bottle-resistant baby when I couldn’t be home to breastfeed.

  3. Lansinoh Hand Pump and Bags: The Lansinoh Hand Pump is amazingly easy to use, small, and can be hidden in a purse. How many woman want to lug an electric pump on date night? Not me!

  4. Dock-a-tot: An absolute life-saver. Dock-a-tot keeps baby snuggled all night long, travels easily, and can be used as a co-sleeper. We kept Channing right between us in the early days and around 7 months when we moved Channing to her nursery the environment was familiar.

  5. Kickee Pants: These ultra-soft jammies come with zippers or buttons, wash and wear well, and fit baby like butter so you can enjoy all the squishiness.

  6. doTERRA Baby Collection: doTERRA Baby Collection is a safe, effective, natural way to cleanse, moisturize, and care for your baby. The calming blend of essential oils will leave your baby, and even big kids, with a light clean scent. I know everyone raves about Noodle & Boo, but we couldn’t use it in our house. The added parfum in most baby skincare lines caused extreme eczema flare-ups on my skin and i sought out a more natural solution.

  7. Little Einstein Neptunes Ocean Discovery Jumper: This jumper comes with a 360 swivel seat, sounds and light up features, as well as ocean themed toys and spaces to add additional toys for teething, etc. We love the option to raise (or lower) the seat according to her height! This has been Channing’s most favorite toy.

  8. Bright Starts 5-in-1 Your Way Ball Play Pink Activity Gym: This has been a baby-pleaser since day one; in fact, this activity gym comes with a light up elephant toy that flashes primary colors and sings that captivated Channing’s interest before almost any other toy. I like that the edges of the activity gym form a small environment and allow for opening once baby gets a little bigger. 9 months in, we are still using the playmat.

  9. Fisher-Price Music & Lights Elephant: This little elephant serves as a white noise machine, night light, and music box all in one. I love that it comes with the option for 20 minute, 120 minute, or continuous sound. In our house we use the lullabies! I turn the music box on at nap time and pride myself on always being out the door in under twenty minutes (almost always).

  10. Luna Lullaby: Every breast feeding mama knows something about the Boppie and the My Best Friend, but nothing compares to the Luna Lullaby. I credit my Lactation Consultant at Northside Hospital for the discover of this magical nursing pillow. This is a MUST buy even if you already have three other nursing pillows. The reason this costs more than the other pillows on the market is because it works!

  11. Fisher Price Premium Auto Rock’n Play Sleeper with SmartConnect: This sleeper was clutch in Channing’s first five months of life. We loved the auto-rocking option as well as the easy travel features. The Rock’n Play collapes easily, is a breeze to clean, and even accompanied us to Ponte Vedra for beachside napping.

  12. Milestone Blanket: I found our personalized milestone blanket on Etsy and I adore it! You wont regret investing in a special blanket to capture your little’s month-to-month progress throughout the first year of life. Bonus, spend a couple extra dollars and you will receive a fluffy blanket perfect for snuggles post photo-op.

  13. Baby Care Play Mat (Large, Busy Farm): This Play Mat is everything. It’s large enough to still be relevant when baby becomes mobile and it has both a girls and boys color schemed side. Another mama told me that the puzzle piece mats can be a pain in the butt because babies figure out how to take the pieces apart., but this play mat is one piece and no hassle!

  14. Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer: I feel like wipe warmers often end up on the unnecessary items list; however, I cannot imagine life without one. As a cloth diapering and cloth wipe using mama, our wipe warmer makes the biggest difference! I wouldn’t want someone wiping my tush with a cold rag, would you?

  15. Baby Fruit Feeder Pacifier (2 Pack): I have my husband to thank for these glorious teething miracles. We don’t use the fruit feeder paci’s for fruit; rather, we put ice cubes in them! These bad boys keep Channing happy in the car, in restaurants, etc…They are pretty much a lifesaver.

  16. Bambino Mio Miosolo Cloth Diapers: I could write a whole blog post on cloth diapers and maybe I will, but for now all you need to know is Bambino Mio Cloth Diapers are legit. I love the fit, fabric, elasticity, absorbency, and the velcro closure. My peanut detests being on the changing table, and it is nearly impossible to use the snap closures that most cloth diapers offer. Velcro. Enough said.

  17. No Touching Baby Sign: Whether you are a fellow preemie mama or you just don’t want people touching your newborn, stock up on a couple of these signs for your carseat and stroller and watch as fellow mamas everywhere applaud your disclaimer.

  18. Lumo Diffuser: Lumo can run 2 to 5 hours continuously and 10 hours intermittently making it the perfect addition to your peanuts bedtime routine. I choose calming oils and blends in Channing’s nursery helping create a calm and nurturing environment. Try Peace, Chamomile, or Serenity.

  19. Grace Based Parenting Book: Set Your Family Tree: I love keeping good books on Channing’s nightstand to read after she falls asleep nursing. On a lazy afternoon there is nothing more satisfying than rocking our sweet baby girl while she naps and I read. Tim Kimmels Grace Based Parenting emphasizes the importance of training up children Gods way.

  20. VTechDM221 Audio Baby Monitor: Forget the glitching and wifi problems with all the new fancy baby monitors. Invest in this very inexpensive walkie-talkie like baby monitor and enjoy up to 1,000 feet of coverage.

Carly Grace Milyo

Born in New York City,  Carly Grace grew up in Atlanta and graduated from The Westminster Schools.  Carly received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech in 2012. During her college career, Carly began practicing yoga as an escape from her intense ACC Cheerleading training. The rigor and requirements Carly upheld as an ACC athlete combined with the social expectations and action packed schedule expected of an Alpha Phi left Carly depleted both physically and mentally.  Before Carly found yoga, she used running, partying with friends, and restricting her diet to maintain a sense of control in her life. It was Carly's true desire to find more purposeful and authentic friendships and to invest her time in cultivating her greater well-being and spirituality that lead her to yoga.

The creativity and physical challenge of yoga captivated and inspired Carly. Yoga was the first thing Carly practiced where the perfect-ten mentality was not required; in fact, perfection is the antithesis of yoga principles.  After hanging up her poms poms and retiring from her ACC Cheerleading career, Carly quickly found herself  invested in the In Balance Yoga Community in Blacksburg, VA.  With encouragement and affirmation from Studio Owner, Becky Crigger, Carly set out for New York City to train with Dana Trixie Flynn at Laughing Lotus Love Skool.

Yoga Alliance 200 E-RYT, Carly has studied and practiced with many influencers and teachers all over the United States.  Carly currently teaches Thunderbolt Power Yoga®;  a powerful alignment based vinyasa flow inspired by some of her greatest influencers including, Dana Trixie Flynn and Baron Baptiste.  Carly infuses creative ideas and sequencing into her classes. Her purpose as a teacher is to inspire people to move like themselves. Carly is committed to helping students be audaciously playful in both their practice and in their lives.

You can catch Carly Grace teaching at her studio Thunderbolt Power Yoga, at off-site events such as the infamous FIT Yoga Series with Carly Grace at W Atl Buckhead, at music festivals, corporate conferences, and more!  Be sure to look out for Carly's quarterly Boombox Power Yoga® Class offered alongside a live DJ, accompanied by her pink boombox, and enhanced with a 16 inch disco ball.

In the mean time, you can follow her adventures on instagram (@yoga__barbie) or give her a wave when you see her drive by in her infamous pink jeep!
